House of Dead is one of those games that started every gamer’s career, it is a game from the time when the world of gaming started getting the recognition it had always deserved. The original game was released back in 1996 by none other than SEGA and it sold like bananas around the world, it was the kind of game that kept everyone hooked to their screens for a very long time.
And now after about 25 years!! I am finally ready to take a break from eternal grinding for tbc gold and get my hands on this masterpiece once again. But is House of the Dead Remake worth playing now? let’s find out:
What is House of the Dead all about?
The original game was set in the mad scientist Dr. Curien’s mansion where he released his biologically engineered creatures and you played as agents Thomas Rogan and G to wipe the evil from the place and rescue the rest of Curien’s staff.
Fending off evil monstrosities was a hard job back then and the remake is said to be even harder as per today’s video gaming standards which is probably the best thing about this game, a classic game stepped up in every way is what all the 90s and early 2000s gamers want. The remake is pretty much based on the same plot and expectations are, of course, through the roof.
I remember spending hours of my early childhood playing this game, shooting through hordes of brainless creatures jumping out of every corner of the dark and creepy mansion. From frogs to Frankenstein, this classic event-driven shooter had every possible man-eating monster I could think of.
Although the memories of the game make me want to play the classic title once again I know for a fact that visuals of this decades-old game have always been in need of a visual overhaul. And although the game had a dark and spooky environment, it was more action-thriller than horror much like today’s Dead by Daylight game.
House of the Dead Remake
The remake is being developed by MegaPixel Studio and financed by TA publishing and published by Forever Entertainment. The game is all set to be released this year for Nintendo Switch as the publishers say. The game is being developed with a strong sense of originality because it is a remake and it has to retain that thrill and gore the original game had but surely, with better graphics and gameplay mechanics which is why we are all so hyped up. I mean who wouldn’t want their favorite zombie game revived with all the latest technological perks.
Things like having 6 rounds of bullets before you run out and hostages suddenly coming up your screen while you are just trying to blow everything’s head off. And all that is just coming to us with better visuals which makes the whole thing way more exciting. Along with the visual additions, the game is going to have a few new modes of play, and bits and pieces everywhere are being updated, small details have been taken care of and the game is surely going to stay faithful to the original game.
Apart from all the good things, making a remake of a successful game always has its cons as the reputation of the original game is nearly an impossible thing to match and the developers have to go an extra mile to keep up to everyone’s expectations.
When is House of the Dead Remake releasing?
House of the Dead is probably the most successful rail shooter ever made along with some other games like Virtua Cop from its time and the genre fans are just too hyped up already. The game is supposed to be released for Nintendo Switch first but it’s also rumored to be coming to all the other platforms and is said to be released this year but the amount of time that is left to this year.
Remakes like this take time to get right and developers tend to take their time to do justice to the original title. We see games like this getting delayed all the time but I really hope that the game doesn’t get pushed back any further and even if it does for some reason, I wish it’s for the best!
But Is it Worth playing Now?
From what we know so far, the House of the Dead remake will keep most parts of the game just like they were in the original classic, with a modern touch to grab the attention of the new generation. Remakes tend to give the original title a major visual overhaul with some additional features, easy controls, smooth animations, improved gameplay mechanics, which I think is quite enough to get you pumped for a game like this!
So yeah, I think The House of the Dead is definitely worth playing even after two and half decades, especially when the game access keys for it is so cheap.
